Friday & end of term information

22/09/2016

Hi parents!

Just a few friendly reminder for tomorrow's last day of school for the term:

  • If your child would like to dress up in their favourite sporting colours or their sporting uniform, they will need to bring in a gold coin donation.
  • For our end of term behaviour award, we will be having a 'dancing afternoon'. If the class would like to bring in appropriate CD's, that is perfectly fine.
  • School will return next term on the 10th of October (Monday).
  • There will be a holiday homework pack sent home. This is not compulsory, although we encourage the class to practise those concepts over the break.
  • A friendly reminder to return your child's dancing permission slip and money as soon as possible, as this will begin next term. If you need a new form, please see the front office. :)

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us.

Thank you :)

What's been happening in Term 3...

Wow! We cannot believe how quickly this term has gone by! It has been a very busy term full of exciting events and plenty of learning. We are all very eager to share our learning with you through our upcoming Learning Journey held next week on Tuesday the 20th of September. Just a friendly reminder that we will be holding the Learning Journey from 2pm until 3:30pm. There will be a parent register upon entering the classroom before your child takes you around our lovely classroom. Your child will have an activity planner with them to explain each activity to you, remember to ask them lots of questions about their learning! We can't wait to see everyone and show off our fantastic student's learning!

Talk to Teach

This term as a part of our Speaking and Listening assessment, the students were to present something to teach to their classmates. We had many interesting demonstrations such as making fruit kebabs, rice crackles, creating paper airplanes, origami, drawing pictures and many more! A huge thank you to all the parents and older siblings who helped research and prepare these demonstrations, your help is much appreciated!

Science: Observing Different Materials

During our Science learning, we have been looking at the properties of different types of materials. On Friday, we observed materials such as playdough, alfoil, plastic, wood, paper and rock. We then investigated the properties of these materials and used scientific language to describe them for example, strong, weak, transparent, opaque, flimsy, absorbent, waterproof and flexible. We will have a centre set up with these at our Learning Journey, so please remember to ask about the different properties of the materials!

Literacy Week!

To celebrate Literacy Week, Room 14 read the book 'Mr Huff'. This book is a lovely story about a boy who wakes up and begins to have a terrible day- everything just seems to be going wrong! As everything is going wrong, a cloud begins to grow over his head- this is Mr Huff! We explored ways in which problems can be solved to help turn our bad days around, for example if we couldn't find our shoes in the morning, we could ask a family member to help look for the shoes. In our classroom, we have displayed our beautifully presented work on what Mr Huff looks like as well as some solutions to different problems. We hope you enjoy viewing these on Tuesday!

Wattle Day

We met up with our helpful Buddies from Room 15 to celebrate Wattle Day! Wattle Day is celebrated on the 1st of September (the first day of Spring). This is a time when many Acacia species (commonly called wattles in Australia), are in flower and people wear a sprig of the flowers and leaves to celebrate the day. Our Buddies helped us to create a 3D picture of a wattle, by scrunching up bit of yellow crepe paper. We had a great collaborative afternoon with Room 15!

New Veggie/Worm Garden

You may have noticed something new outside of our classroom... Thanks to Miss Baines and Mr Petch, we have a vegetable garden outside of our class! This also has a worm bucket in the middle to help our garden grow. We had some Room 14 students help out Miss Baines and Mr Petch in filling the garden and helping to plant some seeds/plants!

The students are encouraged to bring in food scraps such as: banana skins, apple cores and used cupcake papers for the worms. Please do not allow any citrus fruit scraps (orange/mandarin peels), bread or cheese to be brought in as food scraps. Thank you!

Holidays!

Ms Peake and I would like to thank all of our lovely students for a fantastic term! We are very impressed with how each student is going along with their learning and cannot wait for Term 4! Term 4 is going to be another super busy term. We have our dance lessons coming up, swimming lessons will begin, NAPLAN preparation and much more!

Parents, could you please encourage the use of computers during these upcoming holidays. As a part of our ICT learning area, students will need to begin practising their keyboard typing skills.
