VCOP Big Write

Each Wednesday we participate in our VCOP Big Write. This session forms part of an approach to teaching writing developed by Ros Wilson with the aim of raising standards in speaking, listening and writing.

VCOP stands for vocabulary, connectives, openers and punctuation. Each of these literacy devices enhances the quality of writing. During our literacy lessons we focus on various ways to improve the VCOP in our writing and students then have the opportunity to demonstrate their understand during our Big Write session.

'Talk Homework' will come home with students each week before our Big Write session. A very big thank you to all of the families who are helping the class with their ideas and WOW vocabulary words.

It is amazing seeing the quality and quantity of writing which is being produced. We look forward to sharing this writing with you very soon.

Award Winners

Everyone always tries their very best in Room 14. During our assembly four students were recognised for their efforts.  Congratulations to Maria, Natalia, Emilio and Noah!

Junior Assembly 2016

Continuing with our Australian Studies we decided to give our assembly an Australian theme. We joined with the Year 2's in Room 25 to put on a wonderful show for the very first Junior Assembly for 2016.

Our audience was entertained with a version of 'Home Among the Gumtrees' and 'I Like Aeroplane Jelly'. Everyone looked wonderful in their costumes and Miss Roberts was very impressed with how well we all performed. A very big thank you to all of the parents who helped students learn their lines and arrange costumes.

Also on display was some fabulous narrative writing which we have been working on in class. If you did not get a chance to see the narratives please visit our classroom to have a look. They are amazing!

We would like to thank Ms Randall who designed our gorgeous backdrop and the talented Mr Wallis who created our fantastic gumtrees.

Aussie Day at Wattle Grove Primary School

Australia Day is held on 26 January each year. The day is a time to reflect and celebrate how lucky we are to live in such a wonderful country. As we were still on school holidays on this date we celebrated the day together on Friday, 12 February 2016. The day started with a special assembly where we could show off our 'Aussie Day' outfits. In true Australian spirit we also raised money for those who were affected by the recent Yarloop bushfires.
