Health Education
As a part of our Health studies, we have been discussing our own personal strengths. We have some lovely writing displayed in our classroom where the children have written about their own strengths and how they have shown resilience through achieving these strengths. Please feel free to come and have a look at everyone's fantastic efforts!
Welcome to Year 2, Room 14's Blog. Here you will find updates about all of the exciting things that are happening in and around our class.

Easter Activities!
This afternoon, Room 14 were very lucky to be treated with a special Easter Egg hunt during class! In preparation for the hunt, everyone made a small Easter Bunny basket to place their chocolate eggs in. The students had to colour, cut out and glue the edges together to create a cube-like shape for their basket. It was fantastic to see so many people helping one another once they had finished their own work!
At the end of the day, Brookyln had treated us to special bunny cupcakes which were kindly baked by himself and his mum! They looked fantastic and were delicious! Another big thank you to children and parents who brought in gifts for Ms Peake and myself. We will definitely be enjoying our treats this weekend! Today was definitely a great way to bring in the upcoming Easter break.

After lunch, the egg hunt began! We had to search the entire classroom to find five eggs each. Everyone was searching inside boxes, underneath shelves, on top of windowsills and inside trays. It was a very exciting afternoon!

Room 14 have been taking part in fitness each morning, where they have been building on their movement skills. We have been including activities such as, running around the oval and running games, Pass Ball, Tunnel Ball and GoNoodle Zumba. Through these games, we further teach co-operation skills and team building skills. The children look forward to fitness each morning and are extremely enthusiastic during the activities and games!

The Easter Bunny Should Deliver Carrots Instead of Chocolate
Persuasive Writing
We have been practising the art of persuasion during our Big
Write sessions in class. We have been trying very hard to use persuasive
language to convince our readers that our point of view is correct.
This week we discussed the topic "The Easter Bunny
Should Deliver Carrots Instead of Chocolate". A number of very
important arguments were raised including, weather, health and helping our
Aussie farmers.
The Easter Bunny Should Deliver Carrots Instead of Chocolate! What do you think?
Harmony Day 2016
On Wednesday, 23 March 2016 Wattle Grove Primary School celebrated Harmony Day. The whole school came dressed in their national dress or in the colour orange which is the official colour for Harmony Day.
The message for Harmony Day 2016 is 'Everyone Belongs' . It’s a day to celebrate Australia’s diversity – a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home.Throughout the term we have been discussing what the word 'diversity' means and why we are so lucky to all be unique and live together as one group.
During Art each student in the school created a 'brick' for our Harmony House which was on display during our Harmony Day celebrations.

Merit Award WInners
Congratulations to our certificate winners for Week 7, Term 1. Tejas, Raiba and Asha have all been working extremely hard during the term to improve their learning. Ms Peake and Miss Gerace are finding it very difficult to choose winners as everyone is working so well. Keep up the fabulous effort, Room 14!

What's happening in Science...
Seed Planting!
Room 14 have been very busy learning all about living things, including plants! On Friday afternoon last week, the students planted some bean seeds in cups, which we will be observing for the rest of the term. The children discussed what plants need in order to grow, and began to think like SCIENTISTS by asking enquiry questions and making predictions!
We decided that we will be focusing on an investigation question:
What will happen to the seeds if we do not give them any sunlight?
The children were all highly engaged and enjoying their learning. This is sure to make for an interesting conversation with your child! Well done, Room 14!

History and Science
What we have been learning about in History...
We learned about the past, present and future - Maria
In the past there were wooden planes, now they're made from metal and are stronger - Kayla
We learned about toys made in the past and present - Daniel
There weren't any scooters in the old days - Jess
We learn from mistakes in the past so we can fix them for the future - Osman
In Science we have been learning about what FACTS are. Here are some of the facts some students have found through their own research on Sea Turtles:
Leatherbacks can weigh up to 900 kilos - Emilio
Sea turtles can live until they're 102 years old - Tejas
Leatherback sea turtles can go as far down in the water as a submarine can - Ruairi
Sea turtles can camouflage - Natalia
Sea turtles lay their eggs in the sand on beaches - Olivia B
They can hold their breath for 9 minutes! - Jess
